Anemia exists when the hemoglobin content of the blood is less than required to meet the oxygen demands of the body. Symptoms can include pale skin, fingernail beds, and mucous membranes; sore tongue; drowsiness; general malaise; difficult breathing; gastrointestinal disturbances; loss of libido; and diminished menstrual flow. A number of nutritional deficiencies are usually involved, including vitamin C, iron, and the B-complex vitamins, especially B-12 & Folic Acid. A hydrochloric acid deficiency also prevents iron from being absorbed from the diet.
