Alzheimer's disease is a form of presenile or senile dementia (general mental deterioration). It is characterized by the destruction of nerve cells in several key areas of the brain devoted to mental functions, tangles of nerve fibres, and plaque formation. Alzheimer's has been linked to free radical damage, atherosclerosis, low thyroid function, and vitamin B-12 deficiency.
Increased levels of aluminum have also been detected in the nerve tangles and senile plaques of Alzheimer's patients. We become overexposed to aluminum from antacids, douches, and over-the-counter drugs (e.g., Amphojel, Malox, Mylanta, Gelusil, Bufferin, Massengil, Summer's Eve), aluminum cookware, aluminum foil, aluminum-containing underarm antiperspirants, commercial baking powder, and contaminated water. Aluminum buildup in the body can be safely removed by nutritional means (heavy metal detoxing).
